SUBJECTS & HOMEWORK

It is likely that the subjects that you take and the homework that you will need to do will be very different from your primary school. You will be given exciting opportunities to learn about new subjects in a way that helps you to build key skills and knowledge. Here is what you will be doing in your first year.

SUBJECTS

When you arrive in year 7, you will be given a timetable with your lessons on it. Just like in Primary school you will have English, Maths, Science, PE and RS lessons. These are your core lessons and all students do this in your year.

You will also be doing project/topic work similar to primary school called Enquire and Create. These lessons will be looking at the same topic/project for 9 weeks and will be closely linked.  This might mean that you are looking at The history of Birmingham in your Enquire lessons and for your Create lessons you might be in Design Technology looking at how the food we eat reflects the History and Culture of our city and the world beyond? After 9 weeks you move onto a new topic in a new subject area.

We also use google classroom to help with linking lessons with all devices such as computers to mobile phones so you can get all the helps you need from your lessons at home.

HOMEWORK

At Key Stage 3 all subjects with the exception of Mathematics will take it in turns to set homework projects on a half-termly basis. Each project should take a minimum of 16 hours to complete and will include a range of tasks designed to develop literacy, numeracy, oracy and independent learning. Subjects will still be able to set short, revision based tasks as well as projects but the project is intended to be the main focus for homework. Homework for Mathematics will be set in the traditional way. Copies of the projects and the schedule are published on the school website.
