GETTING AROUND

Something which a lot of students worry about is getting around their new school. Students have many worries like how I they know where they are meant to be and how will I get there? These are all perfectly normal worries as in most instances you are going to a bigger school where you will need to move about from class to class. Here are some tips to help you learn the layout of the school and make your way around.

  • If you get the chance, take a tour of the school. This is a great way to see where different subjects are.

  • Some schools will give you a simple map of the school. Stick it in your diary so that it is always to hand.

  • When you first start going to your lessons, make notes on your timetable about where your class rooms or departments are. Things like 'the classroom opposite the P.E office' or 'The Maths Block is next to the canteen'.

  • Most schools have a numbering system for their classrooms. Make sure you ask if your new school uses a system. They may have a letter before a number to show what subject it is, for example S4 = Science classroom 4. They may also use a number system, for example 1.14 is a room on the first floor and 2.14 is a room on the second floor etc.

  • If you are going to the same class/department as other students in your class, find someone in the groups who knows the way and go together. If you know the way, see if anyone else needs to know and take them with you. This is a great way to make new friends.

  • Always remember, other students and teachers know how hard it is to navigate your way around a new school as they were all new themselves once. Don't be afraid to ask for directions, they will be happy to help if you ask.

TOP TIP:

Other students and teachers know how hard it is to naviagte your way around a new school (they were all new themselves once), so don't be afraid to ask for directions.
