AUDIT YOUR KNOWLEDGE

In order to do well in your exams and with revision you need to be clear about what it is you need to know. This is simple process, just follow our simple step by step guide.

STEP 1 - GET YOUR LIST

Get your exam specification or your subject's PIXL sheet. This will give you a list of all the things that could come up in your exam.

STEP 2 - RATE CODE EACH TOPIC

Once you have this, use the traffic light system to rate each topic to give yourself a clear idea of what you already know, but more importantly, what you need to know. Code each topic. Each code means:

GREEN = 'I know this. I am confident that I could attempt to answer a question on this if it came up in the exam'

AMBER = 'I need a little reminding. I am not too confident that I could answer questions on this in the exam'

RED = 'I don't know this at all. I would not be able to attempt answer a question on this topic at all'

STEP 3 - CREATE YOUR LISTS

List all of the topics in the amber and red sections. The amber ones need a little more revision until they become green but the red will need a little more work. Don't worry, you will cover these topics at some point in your lessons but if you are worried that you may have missed it you should go and talk to your teacher who will go though the topic with you.

STEP 4 - UPDATE YOUR AUDIT... AGAIN... AND AGAIN...

Your knowledge will develop the more you revise and the more topics you cover in class. Every month or so, update your audit by doing steps 2 and 3. What you will see is more and more topics in the green which will prove that your revision is working!

To find your exam specifications, find out what exam board your subject uses, go to their website and search for your topic. Find the course specification to find out all of the topics that could come up in your exam.
